Asaf Ayatuhaire, a beekeeper in the district of
Bushenyi, in southwestern Uganda, has more
100 hives of different types. With a
annual honey production of around 2,000
kilograms he earns more than $ 2,200 a year and
he recently registered his company, West
Honeys Uganda.
Ten years ago, Asaf had just three hives
traditional and produced only six
kilograms of honey a year. He then participated in
a training of trainers organized at
national and fi nanced by the
entomology of the Ministry of Agriculture. the
term of his training he started training
other beekeepers in the area. Asaf could
also get in touch with NGOs and
international and local fi nancing agencies,
like USAID, FAO and the peasant association
district. These agencies helped him develop his
apiary and to acquire hives
higher.
